Should I get 18-inch Evo wheels (Ceginus style) for my ML? The first pic is how it looks now (well, minus pinstriping because this is just an internet photo) and the second (after the jump) is how it would look like with them.

They look good, as long as you don’t get huge dumb ass donky wheels it’s all good!

The second set looks better. And are much less common. However, tires will probably be more expensive.
Coincidentally, I’ve got a brand new set of the top ones in my garage. Factory original take offs from over ten years ago. Acquired through work when they cleaned out storage a few months back.

Go for it! They’re classier and rarer, but are still factory wheels for that gen M-class.

Ah. The usual German unreliability comment. Nothing wrong on your part. Here’s just what I have to say:
My family has owned this car from day one. From then on, it has always been trusty and reliable, and has not defaulted on us once. We definitely have experienced high(ish) service charges, but nothing out of the ordinary. This machine has and will last for a long while.
I hypothesize that these get very unreliable once they’re under the third owner. By then, these have depreciated much and have a low initial entry cost. This owner, not expecting so, may skimp on repair costs. Consecutive owners will not bother with the car afterwards either due to poor condition or being blinded by a cheap entry cost.
Oh, and we had an extra 4 years on the original 3 year warranty. Only one claim for a new armrest, which broke due to too much arm resting.

Of course. I’m also considering a BBS-made OEM set which is about £200 more, but haven’t Photoshopped it yet. I prefer that one but it isn’t a good value proposition.

Yep. It was only included in the Sport Package. Regretting not getting it, but it certainly wasn’t a priority.
Ooh. Willing to trade or something? I don't know... Just playing around with Photoshop. But a new set to replace mine would be nice. Mine are in great condition, but have scratches and curb rash after 14 years of use. Just curious, I probably wouldn't do it seriously though.

Of course, I'm just playing around with Photoshop, but I am toying around with the possibility of a wheel change with my upcoming tire change... I found one from a seller in the UK for about £600.

I was planning on trying to sell them at some point but I haven’t gotten around to it. Let me know if you’re really interested I’m sure we could work something out. The hardest part would be shipping since I don’t have boxes for them (though I could find some easily enough) and it probably won’t be cheap.

Oh. Well then. I'll think about it...

Not bad. I ended up doing the same with my Jetta... Its tires were ready for replacement right around when I was planning a wheel upgrade. Bought GLI wheels, stored the original steelies, and never looked back hehe
BTW check out online parts stores (ECS Tuning is good), as you may be able to find a brand-new set for right around that price. Owner’s forums are a good place to look for well taken care of used wheels for surprisingly cheap, as well. All you need is the part number!

Hold on – did you mean actual 190E 2.5 wheels, or the stock M-class wheels that just looked exactly like them? I ask b/c the latter are seventeens!

The shipping won’t be cheap is what I meant. The wheels... Going rate on CL with an oppo discount? I don’t know.
